!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! got sold before I had a chance to drive it. I found a black one posted on craigslist, according to the owner it's had a recent timing belt job and new motor mounts. Supposedly the only issue with the car is a cracked windshield. The other issue is the seller.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

There were no pictures in the craigslist post. But the guy included his phone number in typical "I'm going to spell out my phone number as words to somehow protect myself from the evil lurking on craigslist" fashion. I took this to mean he wanted to be texted, so I sent him a text explaining that I'm very interested in his car, but since I'm 45 miles away I'd like to see pictures before I make the drive out there. No response.

Then a couple days later, he posted the car again. This time, no phone number, so I emailed him through the craigslist posting. Again, no response. So I said screw it, I'm calling this guy. He actually picked up. He likes calling the car a 951, which ok fine that's the Porsche model code for it. The only other information I was able to get out of him was that it has a tan interior, "is real fun to drive," and the aforementioned cracked windshield.

I explained how far away from him I am and asked if he could send pictures before I drive out there. He said he's going to take pictures and post them sometime this week. I mentioned I had emailed him, and asked if he could send me the pictures, or at least a link to the pictures. He said sure.

We shall see...

it's definitely a 951 stop calling it a 944 turbo :) if you have the money they're great cars but be careful since the 951 is while exceedingly more powerful it's also less reliable and more complex than a 944 which means you'll have to throw more money at it.

Yeah, I know there's the potential for needing to throw more money at it later. But I can afford to pay for some work, and if there's anything particularly expensive that needs a little saving up for, I have another car to drive if this one needs to be parked while I set aside a little extra cash for a major repair.

On the plus side, the seller mentioned the shop where they had the timing belt and motor mounts done, and it's a good shop. So they could have a fair amount of maintenance records, and the shop may be able to give me some additional info.

I'd still have it taken in for an inspection before buying it though.

In that case go for it you'll be hard pressed to find a more rewarding comfortable car for less. Check the water pump too though since if that goes so does your engine.

Right now my fun car is a BMW 135is that I'm leasing. I've been trying to find something cheaper that I'll also enjoy. I've tried many, but so far nothing that grabs me. The only cars on my list of possibilities left to try are the 951 and BMW Z4 M.

Not sure I'd go for this particular 951 as I'm a big fan of ABS brakes and this one is an '86 which means no ABS. But at least if I get a chance to drive it, I can decide if I like them in general and then work towards tracking down one that I like (on paper I'd rather have a Turbo S).

I've never needed the abs just because of the quality of the brakes are so good but I can see your rational. A turbo S IMHO would be definitely something to snap up if you get the opportunity, that is a wonderful car.
